Run for Freedom at Belfast Marathon

  • Monday, 07 May 2012

35 people braved the elements today alongside 20,000 other enthusiastic runners to raise awareness of the plight of 27 million people currently caught in modern day slavery across the world.

The team of men and women from across the country ran donning brightly-coloured "No More Traffik" t-shirts and black chains to symbolise the reality of slavery faced by human beings just like them as they completed their legs of the relay race.

Whilst there are 27 million slaves worldwide; 27 people have been rescued from slavery in Northern Ireland over the past year. This is thought to be the tip of the iceberg, and it is admitted that we are unsure of the full extent of slavery in "our wee country". What we know is this: it does exist. And what we want is this: NO MORE TRAFFIK ON OUR STREETS.
